Select2gether.com: Site Review

Here at TBF, we’re experts on e-commerce sites designed to give you the best sale. We love them, but that goes without saying, right?

So when we heard about Select2gether.com, our little discount-loving hearts started beating a bit faster because not only does it claim to give you awesome sales, but it also incorporates sharing via every social networking platform ever. Okay, sounds cool – we’re intrigued.

Our Review: When we first started clicking around, to our dismay, the site disappointed us. Aesthetically, the look was unappealing while the layouts of various pages were overwhelming and a bit confusing. There’s just too much going on! But, we were always taught not to judge a book by its cover—or an e-commerce, social networking site by its aesthetic—so we plunged deeper into Select2gether and we’re glad we did.

Aside from shopping sales galore, choosing from brands and filtering by item type (pretty typical stuff), Select2gether allows the user to create customizable showrooms, blog entries and polls based on his or her fashion selections on or off the site (you can upload photos, too). Friends or other users from the site can vote and comment on your favorite finds, which we totally dig.

Specifically, the showroom feature is one that we really like. After selecting a few hot items, you drag them into your showroom box, re-size and move them around as you please and voila! You’ve put together an outfit to share with your friends. I mean, how many times have you emailed or IMed someone an epically long URL to get their opinion on dresses or a date outfit? It’s a pain, right? In the showroom, you are able to share an image of an entire outfit or even multiple outfits for comparison, via external social networking sites or a Select2gether chat room. Easy-peasy.

Here’s the thing—we love the idea and the current functionality of all the site’s sharing features. We would actually use it all the time if all our friends were using it, too. The true allure here, however, relies on your ability to live chat with friends and get their opinions, and obviously if you have no friends, well, you have no live chat. However, you can still poll other users with things like, “Hey, which necklace goes best with this dress?” which might just get you a more honest answer anyway!

All that said, without the sharing aspects, this site is simply a less pretty, more confusing version of other e-commerce sites like Overstock.com or a
Amazon.com.

Verdict: Though we aren’t in love with the layout and look of Select2Gether.com, we say Yea to the showrooms and the polls!
