Roland Mouret to Design Collection for GAP

In his first collaboration with the folks who brought you “American Idol”, Roland Mouret, the french designer who creates great red carpet looks for everyone from Drew Barrymore to Uma Thurman, will be designing a 10 dress collection for the Gap (yes, that Gap), that will premier in stores on November 7th. I’m a HUGE fan of Mouret and love his curve enhancing dresses. 50% of the proceeds from the collection wiil go to the Global Fund to fight Aids. So you can get your “high/low” look on while saving the world. Sweet.

So,  again, why are so many designers opting the mass market route? It’s all about the Benjamins baby. I heard somewhere, I think it was on one of my favorite news programs ( “EXTRA”) that many design houses are considering pulling the Manolos right from under their Coutorture lines because the rich aren’t buying it anymore- they’re at Target, like the rest of us, scoring the Behnaz Sarafpour line for Go International or, at least in November, at the Gap getting their “Mouret” on…

    The Roland Mouret collaboration with Gap, 19RM, will only be available in France and the UK, apparently. (Lucky us for once – no Target in the UK, so we’ve been missing out). Anyone tracked down any images from the 19RM collection? I’ve been looking online everywhere but haven’t seen anything…
