Remembering Target GO International Designer Collaborations

Back in 2011, Target set out to celebrate five years of designer collaborations with the relaunch of Target GO International: It was a 34-piece collection of dresses with 17 of the designers that have previously worked on Target collabs.

Target GO International designer list

These are the original designers tapped for Target GO International in 2007:

  • Luelly Bartley (Britain)
  • Tara Jamon (Canada/France)
  • Paul& Joe (France)
  • Behnaz Sarapour (American)
  • Proenza Schouler (American)
  • Patrick Robinson (American)
  • Libertine (American)*
  • Temperley London (Britain) Holiday 2007

Interestingly enough, that’s not a terribly international group, right?

*Libertine was an interesting choice for Target because Greene and Hartig don’t necessarily “design” pieces as much as deconstruct/reconstruct vintage pieces and then imprint them with silk screened images. The duo’s collection for Target is much more preppy, very LaCoste like — and it doesn’t incorporate much of the designers’ vintage roots.

This was the official word on the relaunch line-up back when it launched:

GO International has an incredible following and we wanted to provide women who love fashion with a second chance to get their hands on some of the program’s most popular dresses. The GO International Designer Collective offers Target’s guests a stylish, affordable collection and celebrates the many talented designers who helped make this program a success.

Trish Adams, senior vice president of apparel and accessories, Target

We were pumped about the Target GO International relaunch. After seeing the dresses at the preview back in November and promptly drooling all over ourselves, we have been counting down the months until we can actually buy each one in stores. Designer or not, these dresses were fashionable and affordable, a combo that makes us happy as clams. This collection was yet another nod to the fact that designers are catering to the mass-market more and more, which we totally appreciate, obvi.

As with most Target designer collaborations, these dresses flew off the shelves in no time.
