Product Review & Contest: Carmex’s New Healing Lotion and Healing Cream

What: Angela smooths on Carmex’s new Healing Lotion and Healing Cream

The Lowdown: Carmex — which took skin care to a level waaay beyond waxy Chaptstick with it’s little tubs of smoothness back in the late 80s/early 90s — has joined the ranks of those looking to diversify, with a new Healing Lotion and Healing Cream for the other 99 percent of your skin.

I admit it, when opening my Carmex gift kit I had a full-on flashback to my late-high school addiction to those fragrant, slightly medicinal little red and yellow tubs. Oh, the memories … but I digress. This new breed of Carmex includes skin care lotions — for dry skin and really dry skin — all wrapped up in that familiar, slightly retro red and gold packaging.

I have to say, I was a little leery about using a Carmex product anywhere BUT my lips, but after using the lotions for a couple of days — the healing lotion all over, the healing cream on tougher spots like knees, elbows, feet — I gotta say, the products delivered what they promised. The only caveat? That familiar Carmex fragrance carries over to the body care … which is, frankly, a little odd. Do I want to snuggle up to my boyfriend smelling like a tub of Carmex instead of, oh, sandalwood? Not so much … but fortunately, the fragrance doesn’t stay around all day, only the soft skin. Win.

Yea or Nay: At $5.99 a tube, both the Healing Lotion and the Healing Cream are a yea. And the nostalgia is just an added bonus.

I love Carmex lip products and use them a lot. I will continue to use them, but I think their formulators need to tweak the new skin products.
I tried the Aloe healing lotion for about two weeks, using it on my hands about three times a day. At first I liked it, but then the camphor vapor started to bother me. I just turned 50 and have been hot flashing a lot lately, and the vapor seemed to aggravate the symptoms. Or maybe my body heat just aggravated the camphor vapor. Even after I stopped using the product and washed my hand and body, I think it may be rubbing off of things I touched after applying the lotion, then sticking to my face when I touch my face. In any case, my eyes and face are still tingling and its driving me nuts.

Ever since middle school, the only thing I trust on my lips is Carmex (I’m in my mid-twenties now)! I can’t believe they have a lotion, it’s about time they branch out. I really need to try this out :)

My hands have been like sandpaper for the last couple of months. Have used at least 4 other products which didn’t help. Have had 2 applications of Carmex Healing Cream and have seen such a difference….I think this is my solution. Thank you.
