What: Crayola crayons may just have inspired this season’s latest trend in makeup colors.

What the experts say: The March 2008 issue of In Style magazine makes a cute word play about “winning the primaries’ when it comes to the trend of wearing bold hues like yellow, red and royal blue cosmetics: Says N.Y.C. makeup artist Gita Bass, “You should wear one color as your major statement.â€? For eye shadows, keep the application light and sheer, choosing yellow if you have darker skin and cooler tones (like blue) if you’re fair. (Obviously, this model doesn’t read In Style.)

What we say: Vincent Longo recently came out with the C Scope Collection, a line of mascaras and liquid liners in these bright colors and while it’s receiving lots of media attention, it would be interesting to find out just how many people are actually walking around with yellow lashes.  A good rule of thumb, like Bass says, is when wearing any punch of color on your face, to think of it as an accessory. You’re always better off when you don’t let anything else, albeit makeup and/or accessories, compete with it.
