What: Old Navy’s latest $1,000 Shopping Spree Sweepstakes.

The Lowdown: Oh, those clever folks at Old Navy – a $1,000 Sweepstakes, with the entry page found only by clicking to their “exclusive online” women’s plus size page. Tricky as they are, we found it, and while we’re still not over the fact that they pulled the plus size clothes from stores and relegated them to online-only purgatory (read more about that here), this might help a little.

Enter: Old Navy, once a day through Nov. 1. And if you’re so inclined, take a look at plus size sale items up to 50% off here.

I can’t believe Old Navy took the Womens Plus Sizes out of their stores. I swear, nothing the apparel industry does “for” plus sizes is meaningful. (Not that Old Navy is the end-all, be-all place for plus size fashion, but it was nice to have one more store available to shop in!)

As far as the plus size in stores goes, I think what they did was discontinue it and make their regular sizes 3x larger.. I have to wear an XS there now and if Im lucky it wont be too baggy.  It is getting harder and harder to shop there for women’s clothes.  I only go there now usually when my husband needs some pants for work.

i love old navy, but is there even $1,000 worth of clothes there? i know some marni shoes that deserve some of that money.

the whole plus size thing is unfortunate but in my experience the selection in-store was less-than-fabulous.

I don’t think this would tick me off so much if we could at least have free shipping no matter when we order.  If they are going to pull the stuff from the store (for whatever reason they are pulling the plus size line, but I have my own opinions on that) then at least allow us free shipping.  That is the sole reason I hate buying clothes online; I have the extreme potential of being out the shipping costs because of an outfit I ordered and ended up not liking.  I know they had coupons for a while after the fact but … screw that.  That doesn’t help us in the long term.  If you aren’t going to carry the product in the store, then compensate your customers in some way and I don’t mean for the short term.  I know, its not really plausible, how would they keep everyone from getting free shipping instead of just us big girls.  But hey, its a thought.

As for why they pulled it, personally, I think its because it was poorly marketed.  I had no idea they had plus size stuff in the store until my cousin got me a sweater for Christmas one year.  And, my opinion on WHY it was poorly marketed goes straight back to the whole “tarnished image” concept.  If they were ok with the fact that, yes, they do carry plus size stuff in addition to the skinny people’s stuff, then they would have pushed the plus line as much as they could instead of relying on one commercial and word of mouth.  But no, and all that says to me is they were worried what the backlash might be.  The “only in select stores” thing…thats normal, all companies do that when testing new waters.  Its the fact that they didn’t even try to promote it that bothers me.

I know how hard it is to find plus size fashions. It took me some time to find plus size fashions that were good enough to offer. Why don’t you visit the Plus Size Shoppe at http://www.LoveOfFashion.com.
