Nordstrom Comes to Manhattan

What: Nordstrom, my favorite department store, is one step closer to moving to in Manhattan.

The Lowdown: This from WWD: Nordstrom Inc. has signed a nonbinding letter of intent on the former Drake Hotel, bringing the Seattle-based retailer a step closer to securing a Manhattan location, according to real estate sources.

What I say: For those of you who live outside of NYC, this may seem like no big deal, but to shoppers like myself, who have to drive 45 minutes to get to the nearest Nordstrom, this is a godsend.

I just hope it’s a REAL Nordstrom and not some overpriced Manhattanized version of the store.

    A Nordstrom Rack near NYC?

I would probably collapse… literally collapse.. if that happen.. We just got a DSW like 2 years ago and that fundamentally changed my shopping life. I use to bring really luggage with me when I went home to Minneapolis, and shop at DSW and Nordstrom rack at MOA…

I’ve been known to make trips to DC JUST to go to the nordstrom rack..

Umm..Nordstrom’s is really not “Budget Shopping”, as far as I’ve ever noticed. I’m from Northern NJ, and I never shopped there when I lived in the area. Now I live in NYC, and I visited Nordstrom’s over the summer in search of a nice dress. The selection was underwhelming, the prices outrageous, the same as always.( found a great dress at Lord & Taylor, actually)So, no, i don’t think NYC needs one.

Psst…Kathryn,  There’s a Nordstrom Rack near Philadelphia.  Off the PA turnpike on the way to King of Prussia.

I forgot all about the rack in King of Prussia, near the movies…. although that one can be a bit “challenging” (messy, staff a little edgy)*

Still it’s close to 1.5 hours away… I wish they would put one in northern new jersey..

This is wonderful! My good friend Ferdie Lopez was the manager of the Brea CA store. He was recently moved to Jeffrey NYC to help with the store there (Jeffrey sold a percentage to Nordstrom). If Ferdie gets the Manhattan store, you will be very lucky, indeed. He performed miracles with the San Fransisco store and the Brea store. Fabulous man. Fabulous service. Love, love it!
