Kate Moss at Topshop: Higher in the US than in UK?

What: The pound is stronger than the dollar, but don’t tell the folks at Barneys. Apparently the Kate Moss for Topshop line is being sold for significantly more in the US than in the UK.

What the fashion heads say: From Daily Mail:

Barneys, one of New York’s most iconic department stores, is charging its customers almost double what Brits pay for elements of Kate Moss’s Topshop collection. The current exchange rate is about $2 to the pound, but this doesn’t seem to be reflected in many of the prices paid by American fashion shoppers.

What I say: The line is sold at Barneys, one of New York’s most overrated and overpriced department stores (fact: Barney’s didn’t start selling women’s clothing to the late 70s/80s, it got it’s start as a men’s suit discount shop). A piece of lint in that sold costs at least $20.

Sorry, I had to snicker upon seeing the words “Kate Moss” and “Higher” in the same headline.

Seems like you’d still come out ahead buying it directly from Topshop and having it sent to the States….might be cheaper even with shipping and taxes.

To be fair to Barney’s not all of those prices are “double” despite what the Daily Mail article says.  There’s definitely a little bit of a markup on those prices though.

If you really want anything from Topshop, you can buy off of its website.  It will ship to the U.S. and if your order is above a certain amount, it will whack off the VAT.
