New York Fashion Week Fall 2011: Jill Stuart

What: Designer Jill Stuart presented her Fall 2011 women’s collection and TBF was there.

What they Say: Jill Stuart‘s celeb-packed fall 2011 presentation was dominated by lengthened silhouettes and darker hues of orange, navy and forest green. “Complete with pleated skirts, oversize scarves and fur jackets, the collection takes a whimsical turn with playful prints and asymmetrical color blocking,” show notes said…Getting away from last season’s romance with ivory, frothy-pleated frocks and chic embellished blouses, Stuart started her collection with a series of boldly-hued shifts bearing overlapping, clean brushstrokes in a unique color palette of teal, camel and rusty red.

What we say: While Stuart’s collection was heavy on basic garments such as coats, sheath dresses and versatile skirts, if there’s one thing she does best, it’s the flirty frock. Whipped up in a flurry of rose gold metallics and ballet pink chiffon pleats, her softly shaped dresses were created to delight her ultra-feminine fanbase, which includes Mena Suvari and Olivia Munn, only a few of the many stars at the jam-packed presentation.

Another thing we adored was the slew of color-blocked separates, which included tunics and tops in peach, red and teal, and also a super-chic pair of red skinny pants. Yes, red skinny pants.

While the minimalist pieces were fabulous and we were more pleased to see that Stuart got back to the basics, she didn’t leave behind the things we love her for: Girly, soft, elegant dresses. A gorgeous collection from a designer who knows both what women need and what they want.
