Holiday Style Don’ts

| December 5, 2005 10:19 AM | Posted in ,

I know it’s the season for holiday cheer, but some of my fellow shoppers tend to take dressing for the holidays one (or two, or three) steps too far.  You know who you are . . .  you just can’t wait until the clock strikes 12 midnight on the Friday after Thanksgiving, so you can finally wear your collection of Santa Claus tops and your children are still not speaking to you after you made the entire family dress like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer for the family holiday card.

So put down the elf shoes you bought last year at Target and for the stake of all that is fashionable, DO NOT:

  • —wear bells on any clothing, shoes, handbags, etc.
  • —use the holiday season as the opportunity to dress in red from head to toe.
  • —decide to scratch your crafting itch by knitting everyone a Christmas sweater
  • —make a santa hat an integral part of your December wardrobe.
  • —sport a turtleneck top with prints of little Christmas trees, leaves, elves, etc.
  • —overdose on corduroy pants (please, for all that is good and right in this world, resist the urge to wear the printed turtleneck WITH the corduroy pants)

I’m with you on this one.  It makes no sense to me to spend money on a garmet or jewelery that you can only wear for one month and then only on a few occassions during that month.  I just wish I could tell my mother that as over the years she has gifted me with several of these pieces.  I pass these on.  Also falling into this category are little guest towels with holiday ornamentation.  The rest of the year they just take up storage space.  Reduce and simplify I say!
