What: Save cash by skipping the new holiday clothes, and update last year’s stuff with the hottest accessories of the season (that’s why we keep a Little Black Dress, right?).

What the fashion heads say: Vogue.com says it’s all about “holiday ice”—the jeweled heel and semi-precious necklace. “There’s no better way to bring holiday cheer to the little black dress than a bejeweled sandal with a sexy, high heel,” and “Indulge in the ultimate accessory; a glittering, notice me necklace crafted out of big, bold stones.”

What we say: We agree, except for the indulge part -- we’re trying to save money, and Vogue’s talking, of course, about necklaces with price points in the thousands. Fortunately, you can still get the look for less, like this this pendant drop necklace from JCPenney, for $38. For a big-jeweled look for the holidays we also like this cuff from Target, $17.99. And the jeweled heels? Wet Seal’s got ‘em—like these triple gem sandals for $26.50. Just don’t go overboard mixing and matching accessories. If you’re not sure where to stop, remember Coco Chanel’s rule—look in the mirror and take one thing off before you go out the door.
