Heart Truth Red Dress Collection: Fall Fashion Week 2008

| February 3, 2008 03:05 PM | Posted in

What: One of the most anticipated events during New York’s Fall Fashion Week is the annual Red Dress Collection fashion show featuring celebs wearing designer red dresses in an effort to raise awareness about the #1 killer of women, heart disease. The collection is part of a larger initiative called The Heart Truth Campaign, a national awareness campaign that warns women about the risks of heart disease and inspires them to take action to lower it.

The Take Aways: Heart disease is the #1 killer of women AND it’s something we can help prevent by proper exercise and diet. Also the Heart Truth fashion show, is the only time during FW that you will see real women (Sara Ramirez- Callie from Grey’s Anatomy, Rita Moreno, Liza Minnelli, Camryn Manheim) working the catwalk.

This is great. Red is my favorite color. But more important, as a nurse who cares for people in a cardiac ICU, I impore all the ladies: Take your heart health seriously. Women’s symptoms are often vague, but if you feel extreme fatigue, pain around your chest or back, or you just don’t feel right, get to a doctor. If the one you see pooh-poohs you, get another doctor. Heart disease has been the number one killer of men and women for a number of years, so this isn’t real new. But a lot of doctors still don’t see heart disease as a woman’s problem, esp younger women. That said, go enjoy some dark chocolate. It’s yummy and all…
