Natalie gives us her take on the latest British style trends and how to get them on a budget
I can’t wait for summer to begin so I can throw on a pretty floral tea dress and go picnicking with my friends in the gorgeous British countryside. The Spring/Summer shows offered a whole bouquet for us to feast our eyes on. Pansies and poppies bloomed on sculpted jackets and pelmet skirts at Balenciaga, and Prada embraced romance in their Cruise collection, with dramatic dirndl skirts bedecked with blossoms. Go full-skirted yourself with New Look’s flowery recreation, at only £25 ($49). And the utterly fabulous British designer Luella Bartley returned to our shores with prom dresses, pleated skirts, and secretary blouses in floral prints, punked up with spiky skater boots. I saved my pennies and splashed out on one of her fun Batman t-shirts, but have been wearing it with Topshop’s very ‘Luella’ flower-print ra-ra skirt, for an affordable £30 ($59), and a little birdie tells me that you can pick up a button-up shirt very similar to Lu’s, for only £12 ($24), at Matalan.
Summertime means parties, parties and more parties. But what to wear… Try H&M’s strapless prom dress, patterned with a flurry of florals – at £24.99 ($49) you’ll still have money left over to buy yourself a Pimm’s. If you want to be part of the petal parade but fear that you’ll end up looking like your Great Aunt Betty, pick flower power accessories, such as Topshop’s £6 ($12) carved rose ring, or pay homage to Carrie Bradshaw in anticipation of the SATC movie by pinning an oversized corsage onto your blouse – Johnny and Rosie’s giant rose pin (£25/$49) is my absolute favourite, but H&M offer thriftier versions. One day I’ll save enough to own an Hermes scarf, but until then, New Look’s flowery alternative at £8 ($16) will do nicely. Until the sun comes out here, I’ll fight the unrelenting English rain with a rosy umbrella from the Princess of the Posies, Cath Kidston. Blooming marvellous.

Jerry Pozniak, owner of Cameo Cleaners in New York City, gives us some great tips for cleaning out our closet and prepping them for storage.
Clothing Preservation 101
· Clean all items thoroughly before packing – if the item is delicate, have it dry cleaned.
· Plastic or cardboard storage containers can be used, but both must be clean and dry to discourage bug larvae from taking up residence. On top of that, all containers should be lined with acid-free tissue to prevent fading.
· Mothballs and cedar blocks offer defense against insects, but are never a complete guarantee – choosing a clean, air-tight container will be a better choice to avoid bugs.
· Knitwear or sweaters should be folded to prevent becoming misshapen from long-term hanging. Putting a piece of acid-free tissue inside knitwear will prevent fading and help keep its shape. All knitwear should be dry cleaned before storing to prevent permanent staining.
· To store dresses and shirts on hangers, utilize extra hanging loops to help clothing keep its shape. Don’t store items in plastic bags – they don’t circulate air or let the clothing “breathe”
· Store all items in a cool, clean, dark and dry place. Above all, avoid wetness since it can attract mildew and insects.
Spring Clean – How to Make Old New Again
If you want to be wowed by your old spring clothes, it’s vital to freshen them up once they’re out of storage. Even if you’ve taken the necessary steps to preserve your clothing during the winter, stains can appear unexpectedly. Jerry explains the different types of stains and how to remove them to make clothing look new again:
* Acid Stains: Acid stains are the result of saliva, sweat, or glue. They might not be visible when clothing is first stored, but can show up months later.
o Solution: Avoid using bleach, which can actually darken the color of an acid stain. Instead choose products with hydrogen peroxide.
* Mildew: Water stains on cotton quickly form mildew when mixed with air.
o Solution: When mildew develops, the only way to eliminate it is with bleach. Try dropping a few drops of very mild bleach in a bucket of water and place the clothing to soak. Gradually increase the strength of the bleach one or two drops at a time and always come back to check the clothing after a few minutes to make sure the color doesn’t fade. Let it sit for up to eight hours depending on the severity of the stain.
* Yellowing: When synthetic materials meet trapped gases, yellowing results. When clothing is in an air-free environment, or one that releases the gases, it is far less likely to discolor.

What do you do when you get an unexpected windfall? The windfall doesn't even have to be all that huge…an unexpected $500 is almost as delightful as an unexpected $3000, mainly because you weren't expecting it. When fortune smiles upon you, what should you do with the money?
Don't squander it away. This doesn't mean you shouldn't take the money and have some fun with it, but don't just put in it your checking account and then let it slowly dissipate, never really amounting to anything. It's far better to blow it all on a fun purchase than to eventually look back and think to yourself, "Whatever happened to that extra money I had?"
So whether it's a tax refund, a bonus from work, or a gift from a benevolent relative, here is what you should consider doing with your unexpected windfall:
1. Put it toward debt. Okay, so this is a pretty boring suggestion and probably not very appealing, but it's definitely the prudent thing to do with the money.
2. Put it in a savings account. Another relatively boring suggestion, but if you're trying to build up an emergency fund this can be a great addition to the account.
3. Make the purchase you have been putting off. Maybe you need to get a new engine for your car, or you want to enroll in a college class, or your wardrobe needs some serious updating. Use your windfall for whatever it is you were holding off on paying for because of budget restraints.
4. Have a blast! Go ahead and splurge on whatever it is you enjoy: take a vacation, buy the supplies for a new hobby you want to try, do something out of the ordinary.
5. Invest the money. Maybe this is a good time to try your hands at buying some stock and playing around with it a bit. You may find that you have a knack for it, and may actually increase your windfall.
6. Give the money away…or at least a portion of it. Pick a charity you would like to support, and send some of the money to them. After all, what better thing is there to do with an unexpected windfall then to extend it on as someone else's windfall?
The trick is to make sure you do something with the money instead of just letting it dissolve away without anything to show for it. Even if you do nothing more than splurge on a new collection of shoes, at least you were able to enjoy the money and didn't just let it disappear without anything to show for it.

We know the fashion mantra -- no horizontal stripes, no horizontal stripes, NO HORIZONTAL STRIPES. But this Spring it seems that designers and retailers have decided to throw us a curveball, with super-cute horizontal stripe-emblazoned tops and dresses all over the place. So, if you are tempted to cross that, er, line, some tips:
~ Keep the stripes in proportion. If you are petite, a sweater dress with knee-to-neck wide horizontal stripes is probably not the best choice -- stick with a striped top (though a taller girl could definitely go for the sweater dress here). If you are a curvier girl, you might want to pass over the wide stripes and go for some thin ones, and keep the colors a little darker.
~ Make sure the rest of the outfit includes slimming vertical lines for balance. Pair a cute striped top with dark, straight-leg denim and a tailored, close-fitting jacket. If you are brave enough to go with a long striped piece, we like how this cardigan from Twelve by Twelve has vertical stripes on the sleeve to keep things leaner -- or try a top that mixes stripe direction to break up the lines, like this one from Charlotte Russe, for $19.99. or this plus sized option from Macy's, on sale for $29.99.
~ If you just can't bring yourself to wear the horizontal stripe (or simply know that your body type just can't take it), you can still participate -- while the horizontal stripe is dominating at the moment, stripes of all kinds are trendy, so pick up something cute with vertical or diagonal lines (like this asymetrical striped tunic from Forever21) and be fierce.

Torrid, aka the hipper mall based plus size shop, recently launched a bridal collection available online at Torrid.com. The collection features dresses (from $140 to $220), lingerie, and accessories (like the hat shown above).
While the accessories are pretty cute (if anyone decides to get the wedding hat shown above, PLEASE send us a photo... I just love that hat), $220 is pretty pricey for a dress from Torrid, especially considering the questionable quality of some of their garments.

Summer’s on it’s way, and sandal season is already in full swing -- meaning your tootsies better be in good enough condition to be seen in public. Not all of us relish spending a fortune on regular salon pedicures, and there’s no reason you can’t get a good result with some of the many products available on your drugstore beauty shelves -- right? Well, that’s our theory, but we need your advice. What budget-friendly products do you swear by to turn winter-ravaged into sandal-ready?
