What: Accentuated cheekbones are the new lips.
What the experts say: In a recent Los Angeles Times article, plastic surgeons went on record stating that more and more women patients are requesting to inflate, not their lips, but their cheeks: “What’s happening now is that people are focusing on more than just the obvious areas like around the eyes, the smile lines or the forehead, says Dr. Anna Guanche, a dermatologic surgeon and owner of the Bella Skin Institute in Calabasas, CA. “They are noticing that their cheeks are rolling downwards and inwards as they age, and that something can be done about it. In this case, one or two injections of filler around the cheekbone area is needed.
What we say: Seems like everything eventually starts to roll downward as we age, but going under the knife or needle? Maybe not the best budget-worthy alternative. Our advice? Try the ol’ makeup artist trick where you add some contour (try a face powder one shade darker than your natural skintone) right below your cheekbones to create the illusion of more prominent bone structure. Hair style can play a role, too. Soft layers that frame your face can take your cheek apples from flat to fab.
