For those of us in cooler climes, the coming of summer brings all kinds of anxieties -- a primary one being exposing our legs after a long (and possibly neglectful) winter. As we scramble for the razors, wax, and self-tanners (not to mention the gym), we are thinking ahead to where we can pick up the cutest possible summer pieces to offset our gams once we've got them warm-weather-ready. Shorts are at the top of the list, but are tricky for many of us . . . finding cutes style options, quality, and a good fit isn't always easy. So where do you go to buy shorts on a budget?
One of our favorites: the classic plaid bermuda, by Mossimo at Target, $14.99

A little fringe never hurt anyone, as long as it's on a handbag and not your jacket. We've found a couple that we'd carry, but only one is priced low enough to have a shot at making it into our handbag rotation. So which is which?

Okay, it’s official -- the gladiator has been circling Spring fashion for awhile, and for summer, it has landed smack dab in the middle of the Hot Trend Zone. Which is where we like to hang out (within reason, of course). The gladiator, whether flat or heeled, is one of those dramatic footwear options that can make an outfit, so we’re kind of excited about it. That being said, it can also break an outfit, so the main thing to remember is one of our favorite mantras: Keep It Simple. Some folks can get away with a floral dress, statement necklace, giant clutch and gladiator sandals (umm, think Sarah Jessica Parker) but most of us cannot. Keep it sophisticated -- not costumey -- by making your gladiators the focal point.
Some glads we like:
Madden Girl Brandy Gladiator Sandal, $49.95, DSW
Vicky, on sale $39.99, Bakers
Women's Embellished Leather Sandals, $19.50, Old Navy (pictured above)
On Your Feet Leoal Gladiator Sandal, on sale for $22.50, Macy's

More time in the sun (and surf, if you're lucky) can be rough on your locks -- so we're thinking now might be a good time to stock up on deep conditioning products to keep our hair looking fab all summer long. Scan the beauty aisle shelves, however, and you just might go into product overload. Hard to know which of the eight gazillion products that promise lush, shiny, moisturized, damage-free strands to pick -- and we don't like to part with our hard-earned cash for nothing. So what deep conditioning product do you swear by to de-stress your summer hair?
One we'll keep on hand: Alberto VO5 Shower Works Weekly Deep Conditioning Treatment, $5.99, Drugstore.com

At the risk of going into embellishment overload, we’re finding that there’s yet another potentinally fussy detail that’s trendy this season, and that’s the bow. So let’s take inventory -- ruffles, pleating, draping, bubble hems, bows . . . We could easily move into 80s prom nightmare here, but fortunately, no one is suggesting we wear all these at once. Instead, it’s about an emphasis on femininity, and the bow is just another option. Tips:
Scale is key. As with all pattern/embellishment, keep your body type in mind. A petite woman should never burden herself with a giant-sized bow, and likewise a teeny-tiny bow may not make quite the impact you’d like if you are on the curvier side.
Keep it on the garment or shoe, but not in the hair. Nuff said.
One bow is plen-ty. With this trend, we think simplicity is key -- one bow, and preferably minimal additional embellishment. We like this understated metallic poet blouse from Forever 21 for $22.80 and this pretty Eyelet Border Top on sale for $24.99 at Ann Taylor LOFT
