Mind the Gap: 21% of Gap stores to close by 2013

It’s no secret that we’re fans of the Gap’s  affordable, basic chic clothing (yes, we said “THE Gap”, ‘cause that’s the way we roll ). That’s why we are bummed to learn that the Gap plans to close 21%, or 189 locations, of its stores in the US by the end of 2013. We hope that most of the closing take place in NYC, because there’s just waaaaayyyy too many Gap stores in the Big Apple. While Gap has been struggling domestically, international sales are booming, and the company plans to triple the number of stores in China by the end of 2012.

Do you still shop Gap? If so, where will you shop for your basics if your local Gap closes?

My “local” Gap isn’t all that local so I don’t shop there much, but I do like it. I have scored some great sale items that are staples in my wardrobe.
