black bridesmaids

Dear Budget Fashionista,

Do you know of any place to buy an affordable, cute “little black dresses”? The dress must be wearable as a bridesmaid’s dress for an evening wedding.

Answer: Try the Merona line at Target, which has a large selection of affordable, stylish black dresses, like the one shown to the left, all for under $50. I love the fact that they are available in a wide range of sizes 2-18 (and additional colors).

You can also check out the sales racks at stores like Nordstrom’s Rack, Dillard’s, and Macy’s. Online stores like eDressMe and Bluefly, is a great option when you’re looking for a designer dress (Bluefly has fabulous Nicole Miller dresses) at a discount.

I agree, Isaac Mizrahi’s dresses for Target have great style, but the fabric felt very plastic-y to me. Which you may or may not mind, if you don’t want to spend a lot of $$ for a bridesmaid dress.

There are also catalogs such as Chadwicks that have a decent selection of dresses suitable for bridesmaids, in a wide range of sizes.

Yeah, when I was looking for bridesmaid dresses Chadwick’s, CyberGown.com, Cybernetplaza.com, Davinci Bridal, Eden Bridals, and Mori Lee were recommended to me as places to find cheap bridesmaid dresses. I ended up going with this “Strapless Satin CLASSIC A LINE Dress for Bridesmaid Formal Prom Wedding” by GoJane on Amazon. It’s $50, comes in 20 colors, comes with optional straps and a wrap, and ranges in junior sizes XS-3X. I sized down one size for my bridesmaids and they fit perfectly.

Ann Taylor…honestly, this is the ONLY company that makes me wish I was smaller. Their clothes are so pretty, especially the dress. Also, try JCrew when they have a sale…they go up to 16 in some stuff now.

Dont forget smartbargains.com I found my sisters bridesmaid’s dress there for $45. It is a nice oleg cassini dress and would work for evening possibly… though its only in navy and chocolate. They have others, though

I’ve always had good luck at Neiman Marcus Last Call for any party/cocktail type dresses. Or possibly Stein Mart. You can upscale it at the same price as these others. Also, check out consignment stores. Most of the eveningwear there has been worn once.

Also check out Kohl’s. They always have coupon codes so you can save on brands like Vera By Vera Wang.

I was just a bridesmaid in a wedding this past March and my friend the bride had us wear black dresses so that we could reuse them later. It was very smart and considerate of her, though I don’t have many opportunities to wear a satin dress. We bought the dresses from Alfred Angelo for a reasonable $99 + tax. It’s not totally budget but I have paid more for bridesmaid dresses before.
