Fashion Advice: Where to Find Affordable Plus Size Bras and Undergarments

| July 7, 2007 10:30 AM | Posted in , , , , , ,

Dear Budget Fashionista,

I wear a size fourteen and have quite a large chest. I’m looking for comfortable, sexy and affordable cotton bras for the summer. Do you have any advice on where I can find them?

strong>Answer: This is a topic I know, oh so well. One of the best places to find affordable, sexy bras if you where a C cup or higher and/or are plus size is Lane Bryant. Their Cacique line of cotton bras and panties are crazy stylish (even my thinner friends wish they could wear the line) and cost well under $35. If you hit the store, or the site- which has a larger selection of sizes, at the right time you might even be able to score a Buy-One-Get-One Half Off deal.

Also, if you live near a Dillards, they have a wide selection of sexy plus size bras as a part of their Cabernet line.

Prior to my breast reduction I was wearing 38-DDD bras (and still they were a bit small).  Thank goodness for Lane Bryant’s Cacique bras!  Otherwise I would never have found anything in stores that fit.  And they were definitely cute.  I kept one for memories sake.  It’s black with cherries on it.

I find that every bra fits different despite the size tag, so take time to try on as many as necessary!

In our area (outside of Houston, TX), the sale in the Cacique bras line are clearanced 2 for $20! They are well made and the price is so much lower than a ‘walmart, old lady, pointy, cheaply made” bra. Then on top of that, there is a coupon for Lane Bryant $25 off of $75 purchase. Woo-hoo!

Also, after you semi-know your size and are measured, too, you can look online at barenecessities.com.  You can find great sales and coupons on the net for %‘s off and free shipping, too. Order a bunch of sizes and styles, then what doesn’t work, they let you mail back with in a certain time as long as they have the tags on them.

You will know the right one after you find it and go “ahhhh!” where have you been all my life?!

I had the problem of never finding bras that fit. I buy the Curvations line. It is sold at (gasp!) WalMart. They are around 13-16 dollars apiece. I find them very cute and supportive.

I wear a 36DDD-DDDD, and it’s next to impossible to find bras this big in a department store. I’ve seen the Cacique ones and they look very cute, but I LOVE the bras by Fantasie of England that I found on Figleaves.com. I’ve bought bras by them and Simone Perele at the Nordstrom outlet near my house. $90 bras for $25! You can check the clearance racks at Nordstrom, or wait for a sale on Figleaves and search for “figleaves discount codes” on Google. I don’t like spending $50 on a bra, but I figure it’s worth it to get a good (and very pretty) bra that supports the girls.

Lane Bryant’s bras have changed my life.  Before I was a droopy, uniboober who was kinda awkward in button up shirts.  Now, people ask me if I lost weight…no I’m just LIFTED!!! I wear a 36ddd.  Soo much better than Victoria and cheaper, too.

I am a 34DD with 52 year old DD breasts :oP and find it very difficult to find affordable supportive bras; it seems like the reasonably priced ones start at 36D, which often is too loose even on the tightest hook (not to mention the lifetime of use for me is short as the bra stretches I have no tighter hooks to use).

So Lane Bryant bras don’t work for me, even though I am a size 14 on top.

I end up paying through the nose for Wacoal. Fabulous bras but $$$.

OTOH there is one Playtex that works - it is underwire with ‘slight padding’ that doesn’t increase size, just makes it no-show under thin fabric and tee-shirts. It has a jacquard pattern fabric, and is in the “Secrets” line. Can’t remember the actual style name right now.  I really like it and the price is right, especially at onehanesplace.com and at outlet stores.

It just would be nice to have a few more choices.

Don’t EVEN recommend Victoria’s Secret - even their so-called Full Coverage offer no support - must be made for girls with perky big boob jobs.  I have never found a supportive bra there in my size…

<rant off, LOL>
