I used to buy careerwear from Casual Corner (they are now closed along with the discounted store Annex). What designer/store specializes in careerwear (size 12+) that are basic and reasonably priced (e.g. $200 max for an item)?
You still have several great options for careerwear. Here’s a few . . .
Jones New York. JNY is perhaps the most well known career wear designers out there and are pretty much available at every major department store. JNY also has pretty decent outlet stores that you should check out. JNY has several lines within the general JNY brand and are usually distinguishable by the tags. The tags of the cheaper lines look cheaper and the tags of the more expensive lines look, well, more expensive. I would never, ever pay full price for a JNY item because they almost always go on sale. JNY also owns Anne Klein, which is another good career line available at most major department stores. Available in Misses and Plus Sizes.
Alfani—A JNY like line that focuses on basic career wear. It’s sold mostly at Macys and Bloomingdales. Prices range from around $60 for a top and $80-$100 for a pair of pants. However, check the sales rack because Alfani items go on sale VERY fast. Also take a peak at the INC line, also at Macy’s and Bloomingdales. INC tends to be trendier than Alfani, but still has some great options. Available in Misses and Plus Sizes.
Ann Taylor. Still a great option, although they can be a bit pricey. Search online for coupons and special offers. Also check out the Ann Taylor LOFT store which is cheaper and in my opinion less stylish. Sizes up to 16 in store and online.
Banana Republic. Great, stylish career wear that looks more expensive than it costs. I’ve had Banana Republic pants and other pieces for over 10 years and they still look great. Initial prices can run high, but if you wait about 6 weeks, they tend to be marked down substantially. Also several of the stores offer free tailoring on full priced merchandised. Sizes up to 16 in store and online.
