Dear Budget Fashionista,
I have the most adorable pair of bright yellow pumps. I really want to wear them with a dress, however I don’t know what color dress to get. Any thoughts?
It can be a bit difficult to figure out how to incorporate this summer’s bright accessory color scheme into your existing wardrobe. Here’s some thoughts:
1. Pair it with a Muted Basic. If you’re a little more conservative, but want to try this year’s new bright colored accessories- try pairing it with a black, brown, or even white dress. This way you still get the edge of the bright color, while staying within your comfort zone.
2. Pair it with a complementary color. Complementary colors are the colors directly across from each other on the color wheel. In the case of yellow, it’s purple. Across from blue is orange. Find out more about color wheels on this site.
3. Pair it with Anything. Unless you’re an adventurous fashion spirit or at the graduate level when it comes to personal style, DON’T try this option. For those of you who can, I did a post a few months ago regarding some new color combination presented in Lucky Magazine (gray+hot pink is now one of my favorites).

Yellow is a color you can match with anything. It looks really good with chocolate brown, red if you want to go bold! Even PURPLE looks good with yellow. Yellow is a very bold color so you have to be daring if you want to make a statement.
Use the shoes as a neutral/splash of color the same way you’d use bright red.
