    Belted Wool Broad-collar Coat, $139.99 at LaRedoute.com

  • LaRedoute.com is a great site for those looking for French style, without the “Haute” price. From great pieces like the red coat shown above to a line by Jean Paul Gaultier, this site is a great alternative to sites like Spiegel and H&M. Here are my favorite picks:

    • sweaterdress.jpg
      Ribbed Sweater Dress, $34.99
    • suedeboots.jpg
      Suede Slide on Boots, $29.99
    • smockdress.jpg
      Silk Smock Dress, $44.99
    • laredoute2.jpg
      Hooded Wool Blend Coat, $89.99

I ordered that Hooded Coat and got it last week.  It looks wonderful on the model, but on me, the coat was simply an enormous mass of fabric with no shaping whatsoever. It fit through the shoulders just fine, but from the waist down, there was no hope. I’m a size 10/12 on top and a 8/10 on bottom and really rely on princess seaming for shaping the waist area.  If you’re in a similar boat, I’d check out one of the more fitted coats.

    Hi Chantel,

I can see where this style might cause you problems.  A princess style would indeed give you more shape, as would a wrap style with a belt or a Balmacaan with rounded sleeves.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from LaRedoute a little while back and returned it all.  The fabric and construction was cheap and it all fit poorly, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I love your book by the way.  I have started trying to become more fashionable lately and used your book to help me get started.  I am blogging my fashion journey at www.justadumbblog.blogspot.com

I agree. My friend introduced me to LaRedoute years ago but I never ordered until last month, when I found some nice looking classic items. They came 1 week after and I was utterly disappointed when I received them—they were of such low quality! I could pay the same amount of money at Gap or Ann Taylor during sale and got much better quality! But again, perhaps some people would think the style is worth the price. All I would say is, don’t buy classic items like black pants &  sweaters!

Would just like to say that the quality at la redoute varies a lot. i am currently living in Paris, where you find those stores all over the place, and although a lot of the clothes are bad quality, you can find somehting here and there which are great! So don’t give up on it completely!
