So, what exactly is Energy Star? According to their website, “Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
The Energy Star logo makes purchasing energy-saving products an easier process. For example, we recently had to purchase a new dishwasher. The first thing we did was go to the Energy Star website’s products section. We clicked on dishwashers and not only were we able to do the required research, we were also able to get some good valuable tips general to all dishwashers. For example, this little valuable tidbit: Run your dishwasher with a full load. Most of the energy used by a dishwasher goes to heat water. Since you can’t decrease the amount of water used per cycle, fill your dishwasher to get the most from the energy used to run it.
More good news: for those of you who use Consumer Reports to do your product research, there’s an option to search by Energy Star compliancy. We love searching for the specific product that meets all of our demands! We’re picky like that…
