What to Wear Where: Amalfi Coast Vacation

While we’re just feeling the heat wave here in the states, Europe is already at the height of its summer, making hot spots like Amalfi, Positano and Capri primo places for holiday visitors. But deciding what to wear on vacation (that is, staying chic in the heat, and in one of the most fashionable countries in the world) is no easy feat.

The Italian coast is home to beautiful beaches, cobblestone streets, historic architecture and towering hillsides. That means packing takes precision planning, as you could be jet boating to an island one day or learning how to make pizza or pasta the next. And no matter what’s on the itinerary, you want to be comfortable and stylish (you have an Instagram to manage after all).

Whether you have the trip planned already, or it’s still on your bucket list, we’d like to help you indulge in a little vacay preview — outfit changes and all. Slip on your sun hat and read on.

What to Wear on Vacation (Amalfi Coast Edition)

To Visit the Gardens in Ravello

Tucked away along the mountainous countryside, Ravello is a favorite spot to stop during a wine tour or on its own for its infamous gardens. You’re not really dressing for the tasting rooms and sprawling vineyards, though. You’re dressing for the plush, scenic backdrop that is Villa Cimbrone. So grab some sweet flats and a statement-making dress, and plan on staying for lunch.

To Hit the Champagne Bar at La Sirenuse

La Sirenuse Hotel is a blogger enclave, and the it-spot to see and be seen. We say skip the long list at La Sponda and head for the Champagne Bar in the afternoon.

This is the ideal time for a jumpsuit or two-piece set, capped off with a platform espadrille. If you’re coming before or after some light strolling through the city, stick to a vintage-inspired top handle bag. You shouldn’t need much more than some cash or cards for drinks and your phone to document all the fun.

To Lay Out by the Shore

For just a few euros, you can be shoreside in a lounge chair or cabana, enjoying the sun, surf and sand. Have a Paltrow/The Talented Mr. Ripley moment and suit up in a retro cut swimsuit. Add a crisp cotton shirt as a cover-up, too. You’ll be ready to grab a shuttle down to one of the coast’s umbrella-laden beaches.

A simple slide should do the trick if you’re catching a ride from your hotel, so you don’t track too much sand back to your room.

To Walk the City in Search of Custom Sandals

Read any travel blog or city review and you’ll find out Positano is the spot to pick up custom-made goods. Sandals are the name of the game, and while you’re hunting for the best souvenirs for family, friends and duh, yourself, you’ll want an ensemble that works for the trek.

Choose an airy culotte or wide-leg denim so your day is easygoing, no matter how many stops you make in between shopping. Up top could be anything from a vintage tee to an eyelet off the shoulder top. And on your feet? A trusty, broken-in sneak.

Now, get to shopping! Your stylish Amalfi Coast adventure awaits!
