Edible Place Cards: Entertaining on a Budget

With summer comes the need for entertaining. Bridal showers, baby showers, parties and picnics can all be great opportunities to gather with friends and family and enjoy the warm weather.

It’s also time for decorating and entertaining with less fuss by using multi-purpose items. Instead of using formal place cards, why not make your own? Sure, you could use cardstock and write or print them out on the computer. Instead, get creative and use edibles to mark each guest’s place.

We used homemade cupcakes to mark the place settings at a shower recently, and received rave reviews. Everyone loves cupcakes, and these cheery little desserts-slash-place-cards were a delight. Really, who wouldn’t want to sit down to a treat like this waiting for them at their place?

Store bought cupcakes work just as well – just pipe on the names with icing (snip the corner off a zip-top bag and use that to write with, or buy ready to use icing tubes at the store). Or if you order your cupcakes from a bakery, you could even ask them to pipe on your guests’ names for you.
