Going the organic cotton route can lead to a lot of boxy tees in neutral colors. Not that there’s nothing wrong with this, of course, everyone needs a good boxy tee – for scrubbing the toilet and making stirfry, the kind that jumps out of the pan to cover your front in soy sauced bok choi. But there are those times when you need to, say, leave the house. (We admit to walking out door in shapeless cotton on occasion, but only to go grocery shopping. Really. Ahem.) As the eco trend picks up steam, it’s getting easier to find eco-conscious uppers that don’t leave you wondering where you left the scrub brush.

Office-friendly tunic: (pictured above) With kimono-style sleeves and gathered detailing, this tunic is a bestseller. Made of organic cotton with a bit of spandex thrown in for shape, its lovely lavender shade is not the result of chemical dye. ($50)

Bamboo halter: Bamboo jersey is as soft as it looks and this halter proves it. With a silk trim tie and a shape that jumps from day to night and back again (not that we’re passing prudish walk-of-shame judgment), it’s eco sexy. ($42)

Sporty meets long-sleeved girly: Half hemp, half organic cotton, this baseball top features a wide scoop neck and tattoo detailing down the arms. Easy as a tee, but far more entertaining. ($28)

Non-boxy tee: Soft and silky, this raglan tee is made of sustainable bamboo and organic cotton in a gorgeous sapphire hue. With “choose happiness” written across the front, it’s also a top with good ideas. You should listen to your shirt. ($32)
