What: More and more women are leaving their shampoo on the shelf and opting for a once-a-week shampoo and style at the salon instead.
The Word: According to a recent New York Times article: “Today, as textured locks and full hair begin to eclipse the ironed and Japanese-straightened styles that were previously in vogue, weekly visits to salons are more common among women who were born since the Eisenhower administration. Women say it cuts down on bathroom time by eliminating daily blow-drying and is an excuse for more pampering when everything else has been polished and waxed.
What we say: While we wholly believe that a little bit of natural sebum is the perfect answer to well-behaved hair, dropping frivolous cash on a weekly basis to have someone perform the perfunctory act of washing your hair is absurd. And the argument that you’re saving money by not buying shampoo is even more ridiculous (yes, people have made it!) Our advice? Try staggering your shampoos in the evenings when you have more time to tend to your strands. Then, take that cash and pamper yourself with a new pair of shoes. They’ll last longer.

I agree, save your money for shoes! I will say, though, that I have opted for every other day shampooing. I’m a HUGE fan of Big shampoo by Lush. It smells like a Margarita and gets your hair squeaky clean so you dont’ have to shampoo every day. I use a light leave-on conditioner by Rusk and then I’m set.
i’m not going to pay someone else to shampoo my hair! it’s like putting money down the drain!
That’s just wrong in so many ways. I can’t stand not doing things for myself, even if I can’t get my nail polish perfect, or my hair just so.
I thought this was going to be something about the no-poo trend. I ditched my shampoo over six months ago and started using sodium laureth sulfate free products. My hair has never been healthier.
As for these people going to the salon all the time, some people certainly lead charmed lives. I definitely don’t think many of them are here with us reading BF, they obviously have no concerns for their budgets!
