Designers and Their New Budget Fashion Lines

| September 23, 2004 03:18 PM | Posted in ,

Back when I started thebudgetfashionista.com in early 2003, tons of sites focused on various aspects of being fashionable, but not on being both fashionable and on a budget. Fast forward two years and now everyone is talking about budget shopping and looking fabulous for less, giving the same old tired budget tips while wearing $500 shoes.

For example, Rebecca contacted me early one morning, virtually screaming on the phone. Apparently, a very popular website that never discusses budget shopping, was on a local morning show discussing budget shopping. To add insult to injury, the head of the site had on a shirt that even on sale would have set her back a pretty penny. Not cute.

So what is a true Budget Fashionista to do? Go into debt to hire a fabulous publicists, when she can barely afford the $25 bucks it takes to post a job on Craig’s List?  Suggestions are welcome.

Very true. I have been visiting your site since it first started and there are quite a number of people who claim they are “budget”, but are really just trying to copy off off you

This stuff drives me crazy! Vogue thinks a $300 dress is a “bargain” and had an article a few months on buying “budget” Christmas presents for $100. I want TRUE budget information like you present, not nonsense about pairing a $300 t-shirt dress with Manolos.

This is actually the first “fashion on a budget” website that gives advice I can really use.
Alot of other magazines and websites claim to be on a budget, but I’m sorry, I can’t spend $200 on one single outfit.
I love to look good and feel beautiful.
But I don’t need to spend alot of money on it. Not even while pregnant-pregnancy clothes is so expensive, even at Target; and it’s not even all that worth it! My advice-find creative ways to wear regular clothes! Buy a belly band, and just like 2 jeans or something.
Maternity clothes now is ugly despite all the new maternity clothes hype. I like wearing cute things, like the stuff they have at H&M and Target. But then you have to, while pregnant do a switch from looking fabulous to looking plain and matronly, or be broke and look alright.
Sorry to go OT

I’m from Canada and love your site, but alot of the online shopping only pertains to the us. Do you know of any that ship to canada?

No kidding!  Lucky once did an article about a kindergarten (or elementary) teacher for “work clothes”...3” heels to chase small children at recess and only 3 outfits that would have been a VERY large portion of the annual salary for teachers in my area.  Get real!!  I guess she doesn’t have rent & bills!
