Clean Teeth, Less Trash: Green Tip

by EcoistPaige on January 24, 2008 · 0 comments

In the United States, 50 million pounds of toothbrushes end up in landfills each year. It’s important to replace your toothbrush often for good hygiene, but this is crazy! A more eco option? Buy recycled toothbrushes.  Another good option is to buy replaceable head toothbrushes, which will save you cash as well, after the initial investment.

Some good options for recycled toothbrushes can be found at local health food stores, such as Whole Foods.  Or check out some of these options online:

1. Preserve – This 100% recycleable toothbrush is made maily from recycled Stonyfield Farm’s yogurt cups and costs a mere $3.50.

2. Source – Replaceable head toothbrush made from a material that is a 100% renewable resource. $6.95 for the toothbrush and an additional $6.95 for a 3-pack of replaceable heads.

3. TerrAdent Toothbrush System – Designed to provide you with an effective and economical toothbrush that also provides environmental benefits with its replaceable head feature. $2.71 for a toothbrush with extra replaceable head.
