Celebrity Fashion On the Decline?

Fashion is expensive, Style is free . . . unless you are a celebrity. Celebrities are the ultimate Budget Fashionistas. Not only do they get most of their clothing on loan for free, but now many of them get PAID to wear certain designers. Think Nicole Kidman is wearing that beautiful Chanel suit because she actually likes Chanel? Maybe. But I bet she likes the $4 million dollar paycheck she gets to hawk Chanel No.5 perfume for three years even more.

Or how about Star Jones, whose seat next to Barbara on the ABC daytime show “The View” is rumored to be in jeopardy because she promised free on air publicity to vendors who donated their services and items free of charge to her wedding (a.k.a. the best publicity stunt in town).

An interesting side note to the subject of celebrities getting paid to wear certain items is that it might render celebrity stylists obsolete, since the stars options would be limited to the designs of a particular designer.

So what does this mean for the rest of us? It means that we should put down the InStyle, turn off the “Simple Life,” and stop going into debt trying to emulate celebrities.

Update: Star Jones Leaves The View
