Black was the color of the evening for the Golden Globes, but celebrities showed a fuller fashion range at the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards. Our fav leading ladies dazzled in everything from metallics to pastels to florals. But the true stars of the show were those winter white and creams worn by Angelina, Kate Bosworth, Greta Gerwig and Saoirse Ronan.

White is a natural, if underused, choice for a romantic date night. It works as well for the dimly lit table for two as it does for a barefoot walk on the beach at sunset. And as the A-listers have shown us, the right white dress strikes the perfect balance between elegant and super-hot.

The white-hot ladies of the 2018 Critics’ Choice inspired us to shop this collection of white date-night dresses, all priced under $100.

White Date-Night Dresses for the Elegant Lady

Short & Lace

You can pull off elegance in a shorter dress if the rest of the dress is relatively conservative. This piece pairs a short hem with a high neckline, white lace and long sleeves. It’s also lined, which is definitely a plus for a white dress.

Wear this with any light-colored pumps. If you’re a pantyhose girl, try adding a nude pair and you’ll feel like Kate Middleton.

Peekaboo Midriff

The solid white parts of this dress make for a tiny, racy piece — but add some layers of sheer and, voila!, you look like a flirty princess. Add a flat, nude sandal when your plans are casual. Or, try a heeled, strappy sandal for dressier occasions. You can also go minimal with your jewelry, since this dress already has the ring detail at the waist and the neckline.

Mermaid in White

When you need to turn heads, slide into this maxi dress and add a pair of minimalist shoes in silver, nude or the softest pink. Your date will go gaga for sure.

The train, though, is one of those fashion features that presents some inconveniences — and we deal with those drawbacks because it looks so elegant. Just don’t wear this to an event that will be crowded or outside.

Once, Twice, Three Times a Ruffle

Gracia Shift Dress, $53, Bluefly

Pull up your hair and show off your neck in this off-shoulder shift dress. You only need to add your favorite pair of heeled sandals, a ring or two and some crystal or CZ stud earrings. This outfit is perfect to show off your relaxed side.

Goody Two Shoes

A wholesome, A-line silhouette combined with netted detail along the neckline creates mystery and contradiction — in the very best way. Remember to wear a playful smirk on your face, too. Just to keep him guessing.

Saucy and Sophisticated

If the dress with the netted detail is Mary Ann, this piece is Ginger. Sleek, sophisticated and sexy, this midi pencil dress shows off your shape, balancing out a wider lower half with off-shoulder sleeves. I like this dress with a simple pendant necklace and delicate drop earrings.

Simply Sexy

Sometimes simplicity speaks the loudest. The detail around the wide sleeves is subtle, but has enough presence to let you forgo a bracelet or heavy necklace. Another bonus, this dress is made of a forgiving polyester/spandex blend that flatters on many different body types.

Are you ready to make him swoon with an elegant white date-night dress? V-day is just around the corner after all!
