I have to agree with Semer, When I was in high school I got my prom dress from David’s Bridal. It was origanally 250 dollars and I got it on clearance for $40!! It was beautiful and fit me perfectly so I didn’t need any tailoring.

I’ll say it again: David’s Bridal.  They’ve got some great affordable dresses AND a great range of sizes.

Also, if you’re brave, thrift stores.

I second the eBay vote – especially if you can score something vintage because no one will be wearing that same dress.

(I bought my wedding dress brand new on eBay for $100, and it was perfect. The seller was a bridal store owner who had recently closed shop and was selling her remaining stock.)

Good luck and have fun!

There is a new formal consignment boutique called ReDress that resells prom dresses, and they will ship to you. Their website is http://www.redressboutique.com and they put pictures of a lot of their dresses online, so if you see a dress you like you can email them about it. It’s a good affordable option for an almost-new dress without having to dig through a thrift store.

When I went on a hunt for a prom dress for my cousins, many recommended searching at consignment stores or even at a local wedding dress store for used bridesmaid dresses. It’s cheaper to have a used dress dry-cleaned than to buy a new one and most often they are in mint condition worn only once.

Just put the money you’ll pay for a new prom dress into buying that iphone/laptop/other tech gadget you’ve been salivating this whole time.
