With all the celebrity baby bumps out there (Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, and so on), we are continually impressed with the tres chic maternity wear we’re seeing splashed across the almost-constant media coverage—a far cry from the glorified muu muu’s and shapeless oversized t-shirts from, oh, a decade or so ago. But most moms-to-be don’t have the luxury of a celeb budget (or Hollywood stylist), so what’s an expectant mother on a budget to do? Turn to like-minded fashionistas for advice. Some of our standard favorites—Old Navy, Target, Gap—offer maternity lines that, if we were in the family way (which, collectively, we are not) we would make a beeline for. But are there even better sources for fab looking maternity wear on a budget?

I’m pregnant right now and have found that I can have limited success finding cute tops at Ross. I’m not sure if this is just a CA store or not. But if you go often enough you can find some cute stuff. I found a shirt there for $10 and some decent leggings for $6. I also found a really cute top at Old Navy.
While we’re on the topic of maternity clothes, I must put a plug in for Motherhoods’ Secret Fit Belly pants. They come is many styles, from shorts to cropped pants to full length jeans. I have tried many different belly styles throughout my five pregnancies and have never found a fit like this. I never want to buy a different pant again! I love them!
If you are lucky enough to have an outlet mall nearby, check out Motherhood which now encompasses pea in the pod, destination maternity, motherwear and I believe a few other stores they merged with years ago.
I totally agree about Ross stores (also in TX) having a varied selection and you can get a ‘find’ now and then.
JCP online catalog or some stores have some good selections, but most I would not consider a bargain and most likely be a special occasion splurge outfit.
There is always Ebay where a lot of women sell even NWT clothes for a reasonable price.
If you are in the plus category, there is Fashion bug and Lane Bryant online.
Some smaller sized women may find some sales at plus sized stores like Lane Bryant, Fashion bug, Avenue or Catherines since some fashions still look like materntiy shirts, anyway.
Congratulations!
Great post! Also check out Ann Taylor LOFT maternity-- they have really cute things for reasonable prices. They always have a lot of things on sale on their website too!
