Best Jeans on a Budget: Reader Advice

| January 17, 2008 11:00 PM | Posted in , , ,

Okay, we’ve doled out plenty of advice here on The Budget Fashionista about finding great jeans on a budget, but let’s face it, it’s enough to send even the most self-respecting fashionista running for the sweatpants.

We’ve liked Old Navy jeans in general (though the sizing can be inconsistent, and some cuts are better than others), and Levis are a tried and true option. But what are we missing? Tell us your picks for best jeans on a budget (and we do mean under $50 a pair).

I picked up a pair of Apt. 9 jeans at Kohl’s for 24.99. They’re my favorite with a fashionable wide leg, a bit of stretch, and some snazzy stitching on the pockets. I’m sad when they’re in the wash cycle.

I love the Sarah Jessica Parker Bitten Boyfriend jeans at Steve and Barry’s. Under $20 and comfy.

I totally agree with the inconsistant sizing of oldnavy jeans.

I think DKNY soho strech jeans are really great and comfortable and most importantly, under 50.00!!

Call me Krazy, but I like Kohl’s Sonoma jeans. On sale you can get a pair for $20 or so. And they always have sales on Levis, Lees, and so on.

I tend to go for the jeans at Banana Rep - but only when on sale. I’m currently sporting an originally priced $80 pair that I scored for $31 with a variety of coupon offers combined with their sale price.

My sister, who is a mere 6 feet tall, like NY and Co b/c she says the inseam is truer to the tall than traditional “tall girl” stores. I’m also a fan of Kohl’s…you just can’t go wrong there.

Lane Bryant “Right Fit” jeans - around $40. I get a lot of compliments when I wear these!

Although they’re geared toward teens, Delia’s and Alloy are great for jean/pant basics. When you have them on, you can’t tell they are for that age group and they have those TALL sizes I have such a hard time finding in stores.

You might also want to check out Victoria’s Secret. For the most part they are over $50 (still a good investment) but when they have a sale, it’s a GOOD sale.

I have never gone wrong with Levi’s… My body shape seems to follow their cut, as opposed to Lee’s, Guess, Z, Avenue.

Now that stretch is in about all denim, I wear a size smaller. If I don’t, by the end of the day, my pants would be falling down and baggy in the thighs.

Despite the critics advising boot cut and flare to flatter a curvier woman, I find nothing more complimentary on me than a pair of straight leg Levi’s. The fit on a pair of tapered leg or skinny jean differs, but I can say enough about my 551’s!

I second the reader above who said SJP’s Bitten jeans are great! You do have to go up one size, I’ve notice, for them…but, with the different finishes they offer AND the great price of $14.99. I have the straight leg ones (cause its the closest to skinny fit I will go!) in a dark finish, medium wash AND gray.

I’ve always had good success with JCPenney’s St Johns Bay jeans… they’re inexpensive and they make my butt look good! :)

I absolutely love BDG skinny and cigarette jeans at Urban Outfitters. They are $49 and fit me very well, even though i have always had a hard time finding jeans that are long enough, etc. They tend to run a little small, but i usually find that i fit into the same size for all of the pants. They also make flares/bootcut, and skinny cords and pants. http://www.urbanoutfitters.com

Avenue’s denim light jean are fantastic. They’re stretchy, roomy and not super heavy like most jeans. The boot cut makes my legs look like they go on forever. I’m a fan of the darker wash. Comes in petite and tall sizes, too. $39.50

I have a pair of JC Penney wide leg flare jeans with patch pockets that I got on sale for about 22$ at the end of the fall. They used this pair to advertise thier hip fall Misses line. They look fanatastic, but they really need to be ironed after being washed and they have zero spandex so you really cant wear them more than twice before drying them because they get stretched out easily. But If you dont mind the upkeep, they are comfy, make you look thin and look great with form fitting tops.
