We’re usually all about asking readers for tips on where to buy the best beauty and fashion products on a budget, but we have to say, these days our shopping budget is being stretched migh-ty thin. Meaning we need to be more frugal than ever, but we still want to be fabulous—we just can’t help ourselves. We know your auntie/grandma/best friend has shared some kind of home beauty secret with you (using stuff we probably already have; Kathryn, for example, has extolled the virtues of a simple bottle of olive oil), and now we’re asking you to share with us. What’s your favorite super-cheap at-home beauty secret?

I use petroleum jelly for just about everything! I use it to remove my eye make-up, just dab it on, leave for a couple of minutes and wipe off, repeat if necessary. I make my own tinted lip gloss with it by adding kool-aid powder or lipstick and melting it all together in the microwave (let cool before using). I apply globs to my feet and put socks on before going to bed and the next morning my feet are super soft. I use it as a heavy duty moisturizer on other body parts too since it is fragrance-free.

I use pure Vitamin E oil as my night time moisturizer—it doesn’t cost much and leaves my skin VERY soft.

I like rose water as a light scent or to spritz in my bathroom – you can buy it at the grocery store.

Cool, used tea bags are good for puffy eyes.

Also, a tip a retained from my Seventeen-reading years: in a pinch, use conditioner if you run out of shaving cream in the shower.

My favorite of all time: toilet seat covers are made of the same material as blotting paper!
