The following is a guest post from our friends at Lucky.
Australia has a reputation for exporting great style—from the country’s gorgeous models (Abbey Lee Kershaw, Jessica Hart, Miranda Kerr) to its famously feminine labels like Zimmermann, Lover, and Camilla and Marc. It’s easy to see the land’s laid-back, vibrant culture reflected in its fashion, and the fact that Aussies don’t take themselves too seriously is refreshing.
Friend of Mine Started by besties Teale Talbot and Letitia McLean in 2009, this label captures a sexy, effortless Aussie attitude. There’s no shortage of leather overalls, sheer tops, short shorts and chunky accessories to be found. Unsurprisingly, it’s a favorite amongst cool-girl bloggers like Rumi Neely and Alexandra Spencer, the latter of whom is also a muse and collaborator.
Fortunately for us here in the States, the country’s more under-the-radar labels are gradually becoming easier to access. Just stroll around New York’s Nolita neighborhood and you’ll find Damsel In Distress and the newly-opened B Space across the street, both of which stock some of the more elusive Australian labels. Plus, there are plenty of online retailers like Ausmode.com that make shopping for Australian designers super-easy, no matter what city you’re in.
