Fashion Advice: Designer Deals on Amazon

Q: I’ve been browsing Amazon and I came upon shoes by Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, and Jimmy Choo at discounted prices!!!  Do you know if the shoes on this site are actually true designer and not just fakes or knock-offs?  If they are real then where does Amazon get them???

Wal-Mart

A: The shoes are indeed the real thing. Amazon doesn’t actually “sell” the items themselves, but sort of acts like a shopping portal linking retailers like Nordstrom.com and Bluefly.com with shoppers like yourself. So you’re purchasing the shoes directly from a company like Bluefly, with Amazon just facilitating (and probably receiving a nice commission) the process.

Traditionally, designers of high-fashion products had relied on regular walk-in customers into their brick-and-mortar stores, e.g in 5th. Avenue in NYC.

Times have changed & consumer patterns have changed too. Designers now needed the volume just as much as, say, Wal-Mart to stay above the waters to survive.

So it’s not surprising to find some designers like Armani offering affiliate programs, though with a bit of snob appeal, for their stuff as well.
