7 Essential Steps To Look Younger (No Injections Needed, Thank You Very Much!)

I’ll admit to being a bit of a sucker for any product that promises to stave off the aging process. I mean, don’t we all want a refreshed face with a glowing finish? But did you know it takes more than just lotions and potions to get the glow? Of course, a solid beauty product is part of the program – every fashionista’s gotta have her products! Just don’t forget the rest of the regime. Here are seven essential steps to look younger.

7 Steps for Looking Younger

1. Stay Out Of The Sun

Stay Out of the Sun

This one’s a no-brainer. The basic of basics. THE most essential of all steps towards looking young. The sun is the biggest threat to our skin, and not only to metallic-reflecting sunbathers! Everyone is susceptible to its damaging UV rays, and that means everyone! Since it’s probably not realistic to avoid the sun completely, always wear an SPF of at least 20 (even in winter’s darkest days!). The good news is that many facial moisturizers and makeup base creams have an SPF already mixed in. Even better news — you’ve now got a good excuse to purchase that cute hat you saw on sale!

You know that feeling of 8 (okay, 7) hours of uninterrupted sleep? It’s like hitting the refresh button for your body! Your mind is quick. There’s a pep to your step. And your face looks fabulous! The flip side is when too little sleep results in expedited aging. The whole puffy, red eye thing isn’t exactly the look we are going for. Don’t let a lack of sleep zap your youth away! Shut down all electronics an hour before bedtime to ensure a restful night ahead.

3. Get Exfoliating

Get Exfoliating

This step is super important, yet so often overlooked. How is it possible to have glowing skin when there’s a layer of dead cells hanging out on top? That stuff needs to be sloughed away, pronto! Exfoliators come in many forms — scrubs, peels and creams. Their purpose is to remove the top layer of skin so the new stuff can surface and shine. Some are prescription-only, but many are OTC. Look for the ones with collagen-boosting properties that’ll not only enhance the skin, but will rebuild at the same time.

4. Learn Your Colors

Learn Your Colors

This goes for both makeup and wardrobe. If you aren’t familiar with Color Me Beautiful, it’s a great place to start! Carole Jackson breaks it down by skin tone and assigns each season a preferred color palette. I think we all know when someone’s wearing the wrong color – there’s just something off about their look (cough Melissa McCarthy at the Oscars). But when the right color steps in (hello, Julianne Moore at the Emmys!), it escorts a healthy confidence that’s hard to ignore.

5. Shape Up Your Brows

Shape Up Your Brows

Can you believe that some people actually compare brow shaping to a mini-facelift? A bit extreme in my book, but there’s no denying the fact that having your brows shaped correctly can make you look younger. Avoid over plucking and overarching. Keep them thick and well trimmed like Jennifer Connelly.

6. Switch Up Your Hair

Switch Up Your Hair

There’s nothing more age-inducing than uninspired hair. Okay, so maybe you’ve found your cut. The one that works with your face and suits your personality. But how long have you been wearing it? How about getting bangs, the ultimate wrinkle concealer! Or what about trying a new style? Let your hair go natural. Or try braids. So many options for a younger-looking you!

7. Have Fun & Enjoy

Have Fun and Enjoy

I realize that most women have beyond full lives with oodles of responsibility. But there has got to be time to do what you love and have fun. A sixty-year-old woman who lives a life filled with laughter ages a lot slower than an overburdened thirty-year-old. Having fun and enjoying life creates happiness. And this ladies, is the key to looking young.
