1. Face mask

Recipe: This mask is appropriate for all skin types — oily, combination, or dry. Mix 1 tablespoon of plain Greek with 1 teaspoon of honey. Smooth over your face and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse gently with warm water.

Benefits: Yogurt is loaded with lactic acid, which gently exfoliates and moisturizes your skin. (That’s one reason why Good Genes can charge $85 for its lactic acid serum. Personally, I’d rather scoop a spoonful out of my breakfast yogurt to get the benefits of lactic acid.) Yogurt also has zinc and B vitamins. Together, these nutrients sooth inflammation and promote cell regeneration.

Honey is also a skin powerhouse. When applied topically, it moisturizes, brightens, and fights against bacteria.

2. Body scrub

Recipe: Good news if you love the feel of a exfoliating and moisturizing body wash. You can get the same soft skin with a DIY body scrub. Here’s how.

Fill a small container halfway with sugar or salt. Add in olive oil or grape seed oil until it covers your crystals. Mix it up. To use, smooth it over your skin in the shower. Rub it on gently, paying special attention to elbows and other rough areas. Rinse.

You can also mix this up and gift it in a pretty glass container. Bonus points if you hand paint the glass!

Benefits: Olive oil moisturizes while the sugar or salt crystals exfoliate. Hop out of the shower with renewed, refreshed skin all over.

3. Hair conditioner

You don’t need a recipe here. Just grab coconut oil from your pantry and apply it to your hair after shampooing. If you have oily hair, apply from the mid-shaft to the ends only. Hang out for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

The result? Silky, soft, moisturized locks.

4. Lip treatment

Here’s another no-recipe DIY beauty treatment. Heal dry scratchy lips or peeling, sunburned lips with ice. No joke! Dry your lips thoroughly and dab gently with a dry piece of ice. The ice gently pulls of the scaly bits to reveal fresher lips underneath.

5. Eyes

Recipe: Make your own eye-soothing cucumber pads. Juice a cucumber and put the juice in a small container. Drop in some cotton rounds and submerge them until they’re soaked through. Lay them flat in a single layer in a resealable plastic bag and freeze them.

When you’re ready for your eye treatment, thaw the pads for 10 minutes or so. Then place one each on your eyes and relax for 15 minutes.

Benefits: Cucumber gently de-puffs the under-eye area and minimizes the appearance of dark circles. The juice also has a light moisturizing effect.

You can realize those benefits by putting raw cucumber slices on your face, too. The challenge with that method is that you need fresh, raw cucumber on hand. The freezing method allows you to stock up, so you have the pads on hand whenever you need them.
